THE ART OF QUEBEC FELT: OVER 50 YEARS OF INNOVATION IN BEAUCE
Since 1967, we have been manufacturing felt in Beauce, a region renowned for its craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit. Texel, now known as Alkegen, began its industrial journey at its plant in St-Elzéar. Initially, the plant focused on producing blankets, a vital product at the time.
In 1976, Texel made a significant impact on the industry by becoming one of the pioneers of geotextiles.
The company launched the very first range of geotextiles, known as the Série 76, which revolutionized the construction and infrastructure sectors by providing durable solutions for soil reinforcement and protection.
Innovation didn’t stop there. The team continued to develop new products, including insulating felt for the famous Sorel boots produced by Kaufmann in Ontario. This success solidified Texel’s reputation as a leader in the manufacturing of technical felt products.
The Beauce region's expertise also led to the creation of absorbent products for hospital beds, thus opening a new avenue in the medical sector. This diversification allowed the company to develop a range of medical wipes, meeting the specific needs of healthcare professionals.
Always at the forefront of innovation, the research team developed a new line of filtration products, including one of the first electrostatic filters. This new business segment positioned Alkegen as a global leader in liquid filtration, a sector that is continuously evolving.
